چکیده

With the introduction of diffusion tensor imaging a method became available which is capable to detect major white matter tracts in-vivo. For the visualization of the data several techniques have been developed which, however, show various drawbacks for a comprehensive medical and technical analysis. Although fractional anisotropy maps and streamlines, typically denoted as fiber tracking, are widely used they are suboptimal in several situations of preand intraoperative application. Going beyond these standard approaches, several new and more advanced visualization techniques, namely directional volume growing, hulls and hardware-accelerated glyphs are introduced for an improved exploration of the pyramidal tract. The approaches have been evaluated with respect to diagnosis and therapy planning in neurosurgery. Overall, it is shown that the presented strategies for the visualization of diffusion tensor imaging data are capable to significantly support neurosurgical planning and intervention.

An assessment of the correlation between early postinfarction pyramidal tract Wallerian degeneration and nerve function recovery using diffusion tensor imaging.

This study aimed to evaluate the clinical significance of diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) in the early diagnosis of pyramidal tract Wallerian degeneration (WD) and assessment of neurological recovery following cerebral infarction. This study included 23 patients with acute cerebral infarction and 10 healthy adult controls. All participants underwent both magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and DTI ...

Tractography-based quantitation of diffusion tensor imaging parameters in white matter tracts of preterm newborns.

PURPOSE To evaluate the feasibility of performing diffusion tensor tractography (DTT) to map and quantify the pyramidal white matter tracts of premature newborns. MATERIALS AND METHODS Fourteen diffusion tensor MRI (DTI) examinations of nine premature newborns were evaluated. DTT was performed to segment bilateral pyramidal tracts, using a fiber-tracking algorithm originating in the cerebral ...

A prospective study of secondary degeneration following subcortical infarction using diffusion tensor imaging.

BACKGROUND Secondary degeneration of the pyramidal tract distal to the primary lesion after a stroke has been detected by some studies using diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) but its potential clinical significance and the degeneration of the fibre tract proximal to the primary lesion have received little attention. METHODS Twelve patients underwent DTI on the 1st, 4th and 12th week following a ...

NeuroQLab DTI - Probabilistic Parameter Adaption for Efficient Fiber Tracking

NeuroQLab DTI is a software tool which we developed for efficient and robust fiber tractography and fiber quantification. It consists of deterministic and probabilistic fiber tracking algorithms and offers multiple options for seeding and filtering fiber tracts. This paper shows the fiber tracking results for three different patient data sets, published within the context of the 2015 DTI tracto...

Intraoperative visualization of the pyramidal tract by diffusion-tensor-imaging-based fiber tracking.

Functional neuronavigation allows intraoperative visualization of cortical eloquent brain areas. Major white matter tracts, such as the pyramidal tract, can be delineated by diffusion-tensor-imaging based fiber tracking. These tractography data were integrated into 3-D datasets applied for neuronavigation by rigid registration of the diffusion images with standard anatomical image data so that ...
